Are Rob and Nikki Reed Dating?
I’ve seen it all over the internet. Is Robert Pattinson dating Nikki Reed? Or maybe they’re just friends with benefits? What’s the deal?
When gossip columnist Lainey posted an unsourced report that Rob and Nikki returned to the same hotel together after a party on Sunday, March 29th in Vancouver it caused a heap of buzz as people began asking the question again: are Rob and Nikki together?
It was one of many unsourced stories on the two in the last year. There are a lot of strong opinions about this subject…and lots of gossip. In fact there’s so much gossip, we don’t know whether to grab a scuba mask so we can see through the murky waters, or grab a pair of hip waders so we can wade through the—
Well, you get the point.
We’re going to give it a try, though. We’ll do our best to step around the stinky stuff.
The Evidence
Rob and the rest of the cast became friends and were out and about quite a bit during the filming of Twilight. By early summer, 2008 Rob was back in Los Angeles and starting to get the attention of photographers as he went out in the evening with various friends, including a trip to the Seven Nightclub on June 26th with co-stars Jackson Rathbone and Nikki.
Of course, Rob was out with other cast members as well, including a trip to Les Deux Nightclub in September, 2008 with co-star Ashley Greene.
Nikki also accompanied Rob and friends out several more times in the early fall, and was there when Rob performed at the Whisky A Go Go open mic in October, 2008. She and a friend were seen with Rob at the Kings of Leon concert in Los Angeles. She also spoke about this musical connection with Rob with Film.com.
LL: So, what are your thoughts on the soundtrack?
NR: I was a really big advocate to get something from Rob on. I have a big musical connection with Rob. Just for the sake of it I’m not going to say where he plays, but they are just little shows and he plays for us. He’s amazing. Jackson Rathbone is amazing as well. I play a little guitar, but I’m not as good as Rob is.
LL: What sort of music do you listen to?
NR: Rob and I went to see Kings of Leon and they were really good. He’s gotten me interested in that whole world, Van Morrison too. I went and saw The Raconteurs with him as well. Oh, and Aretha Franklin! I like a lot of old Bluesy singers.
In November, 2008 Nikki accompanied Rob and his parents and sisters to dinner at Orso in Los Angeles. By this time some fans had really latched onto the gossip and were claiming the two were a secret couple.
However, Rob has repeatedly indicated in interviews that he is single and has no girlfriend, as he talked about on the Ellen Show in November.
Ellen: Now, are you single? This is a question that I’m sure they want to know the answer to.
Rob: Ah, yeah.
Ellen: You are single?
Rob: Yeah, yeah. [applause]
Ellen: See? Do you want to remain single? Are you a relationship-type guy?
Rob: I am, but no one seems to want to get into a relationship with me. It’s really strange.
People grumbled, however, that Rob was being told to keep any girlfriends under wraps so that he could appear single to the Twilight fans. It has been known to happen to actors in the past, but was Rob under that pressure? He spoke about whether he was even allowed by the studio to talk about a girlfriend in an audio interview with Moviemaniacstv.com.
Rob: Oh no, I mean, it’s not like I’m working for Disney or something. [laughs] I mean, like, I don’t think anyone would really care. But uh, yeah…it is weird now though, because now if you get seen with any girl–anyone–you’re immediately dating…
In December, 2008 as Rob prepared to return home to England for a break, he was photographed out buying boxes with Nikki Reed.
Speculation on the two at this point was really taking off, with a lot of gossip bloggers weighing in.
By March, Nikki joked that she was sick of talking about Rob, but also spoke about his many talents in an interview with Access Hollywood.
“Quite frankly, I’m tired of being asked about Rob [Pattinson],” Nikki joked.
According to the British-born heartthrob’s co-stars, there is a side of the actor that the public rarely hears about – and it’s not his good looks or dreamy hair.
“He’s really talented, he’s really smart, he’s really musical, he’s an intellectual, he reads,” Nikki told Maria Menounos. “That’s the side that I wish people would [ask about.] I don’t know if anyone necessarily even knows him…that side of him.”
The Verdict
It’s quite easy to see that Rob and Nikki are good friends who share common interests. Rob has said he has a lot of female friends. And most of the Rob and Nikki sightings were on outings with other, mutual friends.
Some people will interpret the restaurant-with-the-parents visit as proof positive of couplehood; others as a supportive friend joining the family for dinner. Box day? Girlfriend helping her man put his things into storage…or friend helping a friend put his thing into storage? There’s no smoking gun here. There are no photographs of the two looking looking like a “couple”, no confirmable secret rendezvous…but there is gossip.
Boy, is there gossip.
Tons of it. It’s the kind of gossip that we can’t really break down in an article like this because it’s completely unsubstantiated and totally unsourced, nor would we want to. Everyone’s heard it in the chat rooms, whispered about the fandom, and seen it in black and white trumpeted from the gossip websites.
And we don’t put much stock in it. Anyone can say anything when shielded by anomynity.
But we do wonder if friends like this could–just could–be something more. Exes? Friends with benefits? A couple laying very, very low? Throw those options in the mix and suddenly things aren’t quite so clear.
One could look at the evidence from one viewpoint, and it seems like it could be confirmation that there is or was some type of a relationship there. From another, it seems to prove that they are what they say they are, just good friends.
Although we are leaning at taking Rob at his word and toward this one being busted, the Pattinson Anonymous team was unanimous when it came to calling this one. For the time being, this rumor is going to have to stay UNRESOLVED.
UPDATE
We’ve had some questions since this photo was released on Bauer-Griffin showing Nikki outside her home with what appears to be Rob’s old BMW, so we thought we’d address them.
The Pattinson Anonymous team believes that the car is–or was–Rob’s. It appears to have duct tape on the same area on the convertible top. The author of the GQ cover story on Rob indicated the car had “died”.
“Pattinson’s old ’89 BMW finally died a few weeks ago, so he’s been driving this rented Audi S4. It’s a total junior-Endeavor-agent-on-the-make ride. We point this out. ‘I think my agent does have this car, actually,’ Pattinson says.”
And Reuters reported that he had, indeed, move on to a safer ride, but still missed his old one.
When 22-year-old actor Robert Pattinson emerged as a big star last year for playing an alluring vampire in “Twilight,” he still drove an old beat-up BMW.
But he has now has leased a new car and moved on from his 20 year-old convertible BMW, whose dashboard had reportedly once caught fire while Pattinson was driving.
Pattinson said the old junker was towed recently and that he had good reason for moving on to another ride, despite the appeal of showing he was still a regular guy who happens to be a movie star.
“I was getting a bit scared that I was going to die in it, and thinking is the street cred value worth dying for? And I kind of decided it wasn’t,” he told Reuters.
Still, the old car appears to continue to attract Pattinson, who in “Twilight” plays a vampire in a star-crossed love affair.
“I miss it already so I think I might go back to that one,” the actor said of his old BMW.
So, is the fact that the Rob’s BMW is now parked outside Nikki Reed’s home and that she may be driving it–at least occasionally–evidence of a romantic relationship between the two? We don’t think so. Rob has no permanent residence in in Los Angeles, so if he was going to keep the car, he would need to leave it with someone.
This doesn’t change our initial opinion. We’re still UNRESOLVED.

it’s he’s secretly dating (or doing) nikki, it’s odd he would have left for england for nearly 3 months w/out her coming to visit him. if they’re both free and single to date each other should they choose, why the extended separation? that doesn’t seem like something a happily dating couple would do at all. maybe they hooked up last year on the twilight set (and possibly again this past weekend in vancouver), but think nikki would like it to be more than that. rob…i’m not so sure about. get the impression that his heart may lie elsewhere actually. it’s sad and doesn’t speak very highly of him though if he would just use nikki for sex like that and if she is allowing him to without some sort of commitment from him.
am glad you included in your verdict article that you believe when he says he is single. that’s important.
but i also understand that there is no way of knowing what goes on behind closed doors. dating is a socially ambiguous word nowadays.
i think the unresolved comes from not knowing about them hooking up versus dating. all of that is unresolved, sadly.
this site is helpful in coming to one place, seeing what gossipers and actual journalists have said, and reasoning with that. rather than giving the sad media the clicks.
i think we all believe it is busted, but you remained level headed in your assessment, not just calling it busted because you don’t want it to be true.
I think NR would like everyone to believe they’re in a relationship but I think when RP says he’s single, then he’s single. Definitely don’t think NR is being “used” by anybody, she seems to be very shrewd about attaching herself to those who are in the public eye. Yeah, I’d put this in the busted category. Also, I don’t think Summit cares who any of these people are dating and I don’t think they’d try to keep it secret. They’re just loving all the talk and publicity being generated.
Rob and NR have been spotted to many times together to be “just friends”. I think it comes down to two theries. A- RP and NR are dating but both Rob and Nikki are dening it because they don’t want to upset the fans or B- Rob and Nikki are in a sexual relationship that they don’t consider a romantic one.
I for one believe Rob when he says he’s single. It’s not like they try to hide the fact that they hang out and I doubt Summit could force Rob to play PR games. Rob has also been seen frequently with Tom Sturridge or Sam Bradley. Are they dating too? Of course not that logic only applies because Nikki is female. I never got any romantic or even sexual vibes from them. The same goes for Camilla Belle (probably the next item for a run down?). Apparently a man with female friends is such a rare species that noone believes him when he says he doesn’t have something going on with them. With the type of media attention and speculation this story got, I doubt him and Nikki could have gone under cover over months. Someone would have caught a pic of them at least touching or smiling at each other yet we have nada…
Ok, call me crazy (and that very well might be the case), but I’ve always gotten the impression that Nikki isn’t really into men at all. I know she has supposedly “dated” a few guys, but nothing SUPER public. Everything I’ve read and watched about RP leads me to believe that he really couldn’t or wouldn’t lie about being in a relationship with someone. Although he is shy, I don’t really think it’d be a big deal to him to mention it in an interview or to be photographed with that person. It seems to me, mostly likely to the chagrin of his “handlers”, Rob doesn’t have a problem saying too much about any subject (which is pretty endearing actually). So I’m gonna side with BUSTED on this one. I think they are friends, and music is a very powerful connection to have with someone…I’d love to go concert hopping with someone who appreciates good music like RP (sigh).
I agree with the comment in #6. They seem to be just good friends. When I was in high school, I had a guy best friend. We went everywhere together. Where you saw me, you saw him. Everyone thought we were dating, but we wasn’t he was my best friend at the time. So, you can have friends of the opposite. I believe Rob and Nikki and say friends and they are single. As in the friends with benefits. I don’t think so. I don’t the Rob is the type just to use someone for sex. He has already stated he is not a one stander, he doesn’t believe in being unfaithful. So why would he use someone for sex? Not
Quite frankly, it is totally up to Robert and Nikki if they want to see each other. It would be hard for them now to have a relationship because they are under the spotlight so much now. If they are together good on them but if they aren’t who cares? More Robert for us to have!
It must be difficult to attempt to have a relationship when the entire media is right there to speculate, gossip or breed misconceptions or myths. Both these actors are good actors. My only concern with the gossip is that it tends to put a negative connotation on everything incl the morals of the actors……and the viewers of the Twilight series movies are primarily young and impressionable and struggling with identity and decision-making teenagers.
I believe that both these actors appear to be aware of that and it is unfortunate that the media will not adhere to reporting regarding the movie-making and the fine principles that can be parallelled with good choices and choosing right and good over evil and bad and the good points of these very human actors. This is a story — a fantasy — but the kids of today seem to mix up the reality and the fantasy of it. That is why good reporting is important. The media will assimilate the truth and misconstrue it just to make a buck.
I think it is great that fellow actors can have good quality relationship/friendships with each other and enjoy good music, family and books together. Makes it a better environment on the set also for making a quality movie and working together so well.
i happen to know that nikki and rob are only good friends and are not in a relationship.
but at the end of the day. it is their bussiness. its their life and im happy for them if they did.
at the beginning, rob’s confession was true but when it comes spending night at rob’s place in vancouver, it’s become creepier and a lot of question marks. I hope one of them will confess especially Nikki.
Ok… why is every one on his case? i know all of us Twilight fans… well, i do anyways… think that kristen and rob would be a great couple, and it would just be wrong for nikki and him to be “together” because she plays Rosalie, but seriously? i mean come on… isn’t all of this just a little retarded?
He could do much worse than Nikki. There is no way in the world he could have a “normal” relationship with anyone right now anyway. What wrong with just being friends? Being that Rob is has demostrated maturity with the chaos of fame. I also believe he will conduct his private life the same way. Nikki will be very lucky to have Rob as a friend or a boyfriend, either way. Because its nice to know if something has happen that he doesn’t kiss and tell. Like he has stated before he is a gentleman if that what the lady wants. But what I read in interviews so far Rob has demonstrated a honest talking problem. He says exactly the truth and nothing else. Kristen has even testified to this fact. So if he says he not in a relationship he not. So why don’t we stop hounding him with this questions about his personal relationships and allow him to just tell us if he choses???? I believe he will just say it.
this is weird. i mean the twilight hype is really weird. i think summit really dig all the contents of the PR to boost up their sales but they forget they work with human. which is having feeling and freedom.
i am sorry for rob, he is truly genuine actors but he has to take all the scrutinize because of the movie into his personal life. i don’t mean to rude to the fans but the fan girls seem not notice that this young man, a really handsome, talented and being the hottest man alive is also a human not a vampire. he need more time private(including laid, hangout and go to the club with hot chick) and all the gossip column is suck his ass to get stupid rumors and fake stories…he is not property, but he is also really young to play the game, he is not the a-list actors, perhaps his agent also shock with this buzz, no one can representative him accordingly, like we saw at tom cruise or brad pitt and johny deep, they were making their actors image more better in every sight, they realize their job to scrutinize with people, yes, they knew it but they also had protect their self..
for me, nikki reed is not more than average actress, she just only have few lines in the movie people and i never knew who is she until twilight came, and it’s same with other twilight cast, they were so lucky to be in the hype, believe me, they do…
but if the rumors is true even that is not my business, nikki should be little bit laid down or people could see she is only playing her gems, sleeping around with her movie co-star or the worse one, no talent at all…

Rob is a 22 year old, healthy male. He had previously been in a very long term (3 yr.) relationship before Twilight, which acording to him was his first. I think he has to at least be intrigued with the access that he has to numerous actresses and models at this point in his life. He probably does NOT want to get in another serious relationship, but I think he can’t help who he is, and he’s a guy who falls in love, and I’m sure Nikki is counting on that. I believe she is doing everything in her power to be Rob’s girlfriend, including having sex with him, but “telling” him there are no strings - c’mon ladies, it’s been done before to get a man.
Since there will never be Rob and Me, i don’t really care who’s he dating. :)))
