Did Rob Tell the Daily Mirror He Was Single?
What do you think about this article? This newspaper says that they just talked to Robert Pattinson a couple of days ago and he says he doesn’t have a girlfriend and is single. I’m so confused.
Surprise, surprise. Just days after the Kings of Leon pics hit the web and cause a sensation, we have a British tabloid saying they just spoke to Rob and he declares he’s single. A clever PR strategy? Exasperated Rob declaring his singledom? Outright lies? A combination? Oooh goody! We love playing with the tabloids. Onward!
The Evidence
The Daily Mirror did indeed declare that they had an “exclusive” interview with Rob in their article from August 19, 2009:
And this weekend, despite being at pains to deny a romantic relationship in the past, Robert and Kristen were caught snuggling up together at a Kings of Leon concert in Vancouver where they’re filming the hotly-awaited movie sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
But was it really a case of afterlife imitating art? Apparently not. In an exclusive interview with the vampire just days before the pictures were taken, heart-throb Robert insists he’s still single and adds: “I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t know why.”
Certainly Rob has declared he was single several times in the past, but we haven’t heard from him on the subject recently. It seems odd, though, that in a world where virtually all entertainment outlets are clamoring for an interview that Rob would choose to speak with a well-known tabloid.
The article’s quotes seem…familiar. Not quite right. They sound awfully close to what he’s said before. For instance, when asked about people wanting him to bite their necks, Rob is quoted in the article as saying:
He’s happy to sign autographs but sometimes has to put his foot down, especially when fans ask him to bite their necks. He laughs: “I have to tell them: ‘Look, I can’t I’m afraid, because it will hurt.’
But is basically the quote of his regarding the same subject that was making the rounds back in December, 2008 as reported at various outlets:
He said: “It’s a little freaky. People keep asking me to bite their neck. I was with a whole bunch of teenage girls yesterday and they were just saying, ‘Bite me please!’
“I have to tell them, ‘Look I can’t I’m afraid, because it will hurt.”
Gotcha! Clearly, that is a recycled quote. We dance! We sing! It’s a rock ‘n roll party around here…
Unfortunately, just because a lot of the article consists of recycled quotes doesn’t necessarily prove that the “new” quotes about Rob’s single status are false.
And the use of recycled quotes is no surprise, since that is the standard operating procedure at tabloid offices. His comments regarding being uncomfortable in crowds and having a panic attacks in a supermarket is definitely not new. In fact, most of the entire end portions of the “exclusive” talking about Rob’s background in the theater, modeling as a young teen, his desire to study international relations in college, etc. are all known facts and old quotes.
But come on. No one cares about those old quotes, do they? Oh no. It’s all about the quotes saying he’s single.
“You always think you’re going to get more girls after you’ve made a movie and it never happens.
“You sit there and you’re like ‘I’m a big movie star and I want to go out with some models’ but I don’t know why that doesn’t happen.
“It’s especially different in LA. Most of the women there are actresses and by default that makes them a little bit nuts – not that that’s a bad thing. But I don’t really have a type.
If only someone would get an official statement about such comments. You know, something from Rob’s management team…
The Verdict
Ahhhh, thank you Gossip Cop. If we knew you personally we’d plant a sloppy kiss on your lips as a thank you for wrangling a statement from Rob’s people on the subject of this interview:
A rep for Robert Pattinson has given GossipCop.com an exclusive statement regarding the actor’s supposed interview with The Mirror:
“I will only comment on matters regarding Robert’s professional life, but in order to set the record straight, Robert did not speak to the Mirror, and their claim that they spoke to him a few days ago is manufactured along with any information that they claim to have as an exclusive directly from him.”
Gasp! We’re shocked! We’re horrified! A tabloid manufactured this article and lied about speaking to Rob a few days ago? Color us surprised.

Ladies and gents, there you go. Sweet and simple. Rob did not speak with the Daily Mirror. This is BUSTED.
Ah, time for yet another movie. Rob is spending his early summer in and around the Los Angeles area shooting his next film, Water for Elephants. We can't wait for that one. And Eclipse promotion is calling his name as well. Happy June!As always...

So let’s spread the news about all the gossip rags out there. They usually lie folks!!!!!
I’m glad his people nip this in the bud, but I have to question. Why is it this is the first article that his people had made a statement too? Why not all the others that says things that arent’ true? I know they really can’t, because there is so many. He did say he would only comment on his professional career, not his personal life. What does that say? Nothing. I’m not a huge Robsten fan, so yeah, I hope he is single.
Our feeling is that this is the only taboid-type story that has claimed to have had an interview DIRECTLY with Rob and attributed the comments to him. That is a huge lie, and one that they cannot hide behind their “sources” for. It needed to be addressed, and was.
I’m not a huge Robsten fan either… but I’m glad they get this clear. Like Kim I also wonder why his reps haven’t said anything about the other thing too.. like kristen being pregnant with rob’s child, etc… it’s kind of odd… anyway I guess we’ll never know if he is single or with kristen until he says so… or a clear picture of the two of them together and actually kissing (not like the one from the Kings of Leon’s concert) or an official statement from their reps.. it’s not that I don’t want them to be together. it’s just that I don’t believe it until I really see it (or get the facts from the real sources)
It’s amazing.. I must be naive but I didn’t realise that magazine were able to actually manufacture pictures and recycle old articles or even make them up..wow..there should be a law against it..just because those people work in the film industry does that give every magazine editor carte Blanche to drag their name in the mud ..as they do so often..that does it for me than..I will just ignore all headlines about rob and log on your website … thanks again
Good point Kim E. I wondered the same thing myself. And actually this ISN’T the first mag that has claimed to have a new interview with him. On August 6th there was this:
“In an interview with Britian’s OK! Magazine, Robert said that he was “young, free and single” and simply “very good friends,” with Kristin.”
So how come Rob and his publicist didn’t dispute that?
i agree with starfire… also i agree w/ fluffgirl.. i dont believe nething til i hear it frm their mouths or an actual rep for them. i am a fan jus like every other 19 year old grl i knw(im more a fan of tha books tho, like obsessed, lol) but unlike many of them im not obsessed with them being together. its nice if they are but if they’re not the world will continue to revolve.

Well, a gossip magazine that has an article manufactured, I am shocked… NOT!!! I honestly don’t believe anything they write, wether they write Rob is single or wether they write he’s dating ( or whatever) Kristen or any other girl. Guess that is why I don’t buy them :D. I am not a big robsten fan ( it would be too cliche, lovers on screen and lovers off screen) but if they really love each other and they are together, then I wish them all the best.
Hmm… I read blogs on a similar topic, but i never visited your blog. I added it to favorites and i’ll be your constant reader.
Unless that’s a typo on your part, didn’t anyone notice that the article says that they are in Vancouver to film New Moon not Eclipse? That should be a major red flag that these tabloid people are lazy and don’t fact check or proof read their work.

I believe Rob and Kristen are together. I wish them the best. There has been too many hints (big and small) being dropped on us for months now. Sorry ladies but he is taken.

Pour ceux et celles qui comprennent le french : Beaucoup de fans devraient venir voir votre blog, elles comprendraient bien des choses sur les tabloïds !!! Notamment qu’ils nous ressortent du réchauffé et malheureusement celles qui ne veulent pas que Rob sortent avec une fille sont prêtent à croire n’importe quoi !!
