Just the Facts: The “Memoirs”/ “Remember Me” Script, Part II

A little over a week ago, we took a look at a project Rob is said to be negotiating for, “Memoirs” [now entitled "Remember Me"]. A source who has read the script was kind enough to sketch out the main cast and answer our questions. Now, in our follow-up article, our source is answering questions that our readers have emailed us or left in our comments.
As we get ready to learn a bit more about the script, just a couple reminders. One, Robert Pattinson has not signed for the project yet. [see update below] And keep in mind that our source has read only the original script by Will Fetters. There may be substantial changes to the script during the rewrite; we do not know. But let’s find out what you wanted to know about the story.
Update
Per Screen Daily, it appears Robert may have signed for this role, with a scheduled shoot beginning in the summer. Apparently, the movie has been retitled “Remember Me”. We are still awaiting official confirmation from Summit or Rob.
Summit Entertainment is presenting four new titles to buyers at Cannes this year including two new Summit productions - a romantic drama starring Twilight sensation Robert Pattinson and a generational love story set in Italy starring Amanda Seyfried.
Pattinson is starring in Remember Me which is shooting this summer in New York while the actor is between Twilight sequels New Moon, which wraps at the end of May, and Eclipse, which starts in August.
Allen Coulter, the award-winning TV director (The Sopranos, Damages) who made his feature debut with Hollywoodland in 2006, is directing the film and Nick Osborne and Trevor Engelson of Underground Films (License To Wed) are producing.
Summit co-chairman and CEO Patrick Wachsberger wouldn’t go into too much detail on the plot but described the film as this generation’s Love Story. A female lead is in the process of being cast, while Rachel Getting Married writer Jenny Lumet has finished the latest draft of the screenplay.
This generation’s “Love Story”??? We double-checked with our source, who laughed…”Love Story? God, no! I would not describe it like that at all. It did make me cry like a baby, though.”

Q: This character sounds a bit like a cross between Art in How To Be and maybe that character he was supposed to play in Parts Per Billion. Is he?
A: Well, I’ve never seen a script for Parts Per Billion, so I can’t comment on that, but I’d say Tyler is definitely a departure from Art. The character Art is someone insecure and on a quest to “be normal” in a lot of ways. Tyler is far more confident and who is basically a normal college student. He’s just dealing with some heavy stuff.
Q: What are Tyler’s mother and step dad like?
A: Tyler’s mom is a pretty typical divorced parent. She gets overwhelmed with her ex sometimes, and there’s certainly tension there, but she gets along well with her children. Les, Tyler’s step dad, is almost the polar opposite of Tyler’s dad. He’s a professor, a bit of a hippie, and a free spirit.
Q: Aidan sounds interesting, can you tell us more about him?
A: He’s a riot, but a great friend to Tyler, too. He has no problems knocking Tyler over the head with the truth, if he needs to. He’s one of those larger-than-life characters that’s a bit eccentric.
Q: Is it like the movie The Notebook, where it’s older version’s of the characters, looking back through flashbacks into their lives when they were younger?
A: Like The Notebook? No, it’s not told in that way at all.
Q: Is the character British? Would Rob be doing his regular accent?
A: No, I wouldn’t think so. These characters are New Yorkers. Of course, I suppose they could make the family British, but I doubt it.
Q: You said that both Tyler and Ally are dealing with “family issues”. What kind?
A: Both families are dealing with a death, basically. But it’s how those deaths are causing issues now that sort of weave through this script.
Q: Last one…and it’s one we got over and over again: Why is the film called “Memoirs”?
A: Well, it’s hard to really say without spoiling the film. This part isn’t a spoiler really, though, so I will say that Tyler writes in a journal a lot. Let’s leave it at that.

Ah, time for yet another movie. Rob is spending his early summer in and around the Los Angeles area shooting his next film, Water for Elephants. We can't wait for that one. And Eclipse promotion is calling his name as well. Happy June!As always...

Is it possible to check whether Rob will have to do a lot of voice over work ie reading from his journal?

Is it possible to check whether Rob will have to do a lot of voice over work ie reading from his journal?
We checked. There is a very small bit of voiceover, but no…Tyler does not really read from his journal throughout the story.
Very interesting and thanks PA. Will there be a part III to look forward to?
At first, I was thinking that Summitt was just doing this to capitolize on Rob’s name but then I thought about it and said to myself, Rob wouldn’t do it unless there is more than meets the eye. I think that is what the source is trying not to give away…the more than meets the eye part. He will do well no matter what, its the way he is.
Thank you, PA, that sounds very interesting and I liked how you asked fan’s questions. I’m extremely curious what the whole storyline will be and who the other actors will be.
Thanks very much for taking the time to do this and to your source for answering the questions. Can I just ask a basic question. Does the source think the role is a meaty one for Rob. One to test him.

I can’t wait for this one to start filming. In NY!! So do you think there’ll be a spill-out of sets/places once it’s confirmed?
Very exciting! I can’t wait to see more of Rob outside of Twilight. Thanks for getting more info on this.
There’s some discussion amongst fans on whether the dark comedy Rob mentions in the ET interview is infact Remember Me. Does your source think the film could be categorised as a dark comedy or is it more likely he is talking about another film?
Ro also mentions he is doing the soundtrack for another film. Is it likely that Remember me might be that film. Is there music in it. Do you get to see the musician brother ?
Does the Tyler character have any action scenes e.g with the girl’s father

Will this role really test Rob. Is it an opportunity for him to show how great an actor he is.
Good info, but I reall wish someone would put him in a bad guy role soon. Please don’t make him into another Hugh Grant, Rupert Everett or whatever British actor comes along. Rob has tremendous talent that hasn’t even begun to be tapped and I’d like to see him play something with a little more psychological range and not so much angst. Let’s see him go to the dark side. I keep reading comparisons between Rob and ‘young Johnny Depp’. I’m looking forward to Little Ashes as I think we’ll see some range there but I’m afraid he’s going to get pigeon-holed if he doesn’t stick to his guns. Just remember, Rob…Jack, Jimmy and Johnny didn’t get where they were by kissing the studio’s butt. Stay strong in your convictions.
I think I’ve figured it out. Tyler is dead and the movie is told through his journal/”memoirs”. If I’m right, this is going to be a real tear jerker!
Is Rob’s scenes in just a small percentage of the story? Or all of the story? Does it flash back and forth in time? For his benefit it would be great to see him in the full movie stretching his acting ability in a key role instead of a role where he’s just acting for a brief time and then dies.
Actually Rob has already spent a few weeks with Ms Lumet (screen writer) and is very happy with this script. He said she has captured his own real-life personality and has based many of his character’s mannerisms and speech patterns on Rob’s own. This should be a very interesting film for those of us who are interested in Rob as a person and not as a screen characture or Hollywood idol.
Read the original screenplay by Will Fetters.
Rob is perfect for the part if it is as originally written.
Put a box of Kleenex under each arm…you’ll need it.
I notice some people say they have read the original screenplay. Would someone be able to tell me where to find a copy? I would really like to read it.
Is the movie based on a book? And if it is do you know who the author is? Thanks!
No, twylababe…
The movie is an original screenplay by Will Fetters, which was rewritten by Jenny Lumet. It’s not based on a book at all.
where can I find and download the script? I looked for it everywhere. Please please please send me a link or a site where I can find it!
I can’t understand why anyone would want to know what the plot of the movie is before seeing it. I’d rather go into the theater and be completely taken by surprise and go with it, especially if it’s a sad story. Knowing too much about what is going to happen ruins it for me. I’ve watched the videos and seen the photos of him filming his scenes in NYC and that’s enough for me. Couldn’t believe those crazy girls attacking him the way they did! Geez, he’s got to hate all that stuff that goes along with this thing called fame.
I agree with #24 lets leave it alone and be surprised. He is a wonderful new talent and it will be fun to see him in something that people can’t quote every line from.
I read that he was to eager do a Coronation Street appearence lmao. Not sure how true this is, has anyone else heard it? There’s a bit of me that kind of wishes this is true lol.
