Is Rob Dating Kristen Stewart?
Okay, everyone says it’s true, but did Rob and Kristen really have a thing? Did they date? Are Rob and Kristen dating now?
Oh boy. This is the one everyone has been asking for and the Pattinson Anonymous team is feeling brave. We’ve strapped on our high-tech protective gear and we’re ready to do battle and take the slings from both the shippers and the naysayers. There’s a heap of evidence, but we’re willing. We shall delve into the world of amore, and hopefully we will live to tell the tale.
Since the release of Twilight and the fandom that followed, there have been many rumors and reports circulating about Rob and Kristen’s on-screen chemistry and a possible off-screen relationship. The rumor seemed to get started when stories about how Rob was cast began getting press. In Entertainment Weekly’s July 18, 2008 cover story on Twilight, director Catherine Hardwicke talked about Rob’s audition.
So Pattinson flew to meet with Hardwicke at her home in Venice, Calif. His audition consisted of a love scene with Stewart on Hardwicke’s bed. ”It was electric,” Hardwicke says. ”The room shorted out, the sky opened up, and I was like, ‘This is going to be good.”’
Clearly the two leads of the movie had chemistry on screen, but did the chemistry extend off screen as well? Fans pored over hundreds of pictures of the two of them together at premieres and events. Interviews were dissected and analyzed in an effort to find evidence from a glance or smile between them confirming their off-screen pairing. Much ado about nothing…or cold, hard evidence?
The Evidence
During the neverending Twilight Press Tour, many fans watched as Robert stated in several interviews that he had a “crush” on Kristen. Reporters also latched on to a story about Rob asking Kristen to “marry him” on set…and Rob responded in typical joking Rob style in this interview with Extra (at 2:10).
Extra: Now, the chemistry between you and Kristen is amazing. What did you do to kind of perfect that, ‘cuz I read that you followed her around for days and you proposed to her; is this true?
Rob: Oh yeah, we were gonna get married for a long time. (laughs)
Extra: What about her boyfriend?
Rob: Pffft. Who cares?
Rob freely admitted he admired Kristen and that the two had onscreen chemistry in a Novemer 21, 2008 interview with Premiere:
“She’s basically the reason I did the movie. When I read the book, and there are these moony descriptions of Edward as this God-like figure, I thought there was no way I could play him, really. But when I got into the room with Kristen, there was just a certain chemistry. And she’s just very smart. She’s really the best actress of her generation.”
Kristen seemed equally enthused to be working with Rob on the film, as she discussed his casting in and Q&A session with Vanity Fair.
Edward, played by Robert Pattinson, and Bella share a very intense love in this film. How was it working with Robert?
Well, I basically cast him. We did one day of auditions and a bunch of guys came in. Catherine Hardwicke, the director, afterwards was like, “What do you think? This is such a hard choice.” I was like, “Are you kidding me!? It’s such an obvious choice!” It couldn’t have been better. It was sort of perfect.
The duo’s playful and comfortable demeanor during a steamy photo shoot and video for the Vanity Fair Twilight article caused some waves on the internet, too.
By this time Twilight’s popularity seemed assured, and Rob and Kristen’s draw to help sell magazines and garner internet hits had not gone unnoticed.
This lead to a slew of articles as the two became targets of the tabloid rumor mill. Various magazines cited anonymous sources and internet blind items were everywhere. Magazines like Life and Style ran various covers on the couple’s “romance”. But the stars were soon clarifying that this chemistry was left on the set. Rob told OK Magazine:
“Kristen is amazing, and your first impulse is to ask her for her phone number. But then I forced myself to remember that ninety percent of what you do on screen is acting and make things up.
I enjoyed the process of creating these characters with her. We would spend all night talking about our scenes and the next day we would defend out points of view. That creative energy made us have a very special bond.”
And Rob complained a bit about Summit refusing to just deny the relationship in an interview in the December 14, 2008 edition of TimesOnline.
“They’re so ridiculous at the film company,” he says. “They keep refusing to deny it. They just say, ‘No comment.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re not.’
And Kristen, who has been in a long-term relationship with fellow actor Michael Angarano for several years, set the record straight on the Robert rumors when speaking with Nylon.
It’s just totally false … Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close. But if we go out in public, every little detail is scrutinized, like the way I stand next to him.” She explained that although they aren’t dating, they do share a certain camaraderie. “And it’s, like, I know this guy really f—ing well,” she said. “It’s only natural that we’re sort of leaning on each other, because we’re put in the most f—ing psychotic situations.”
Since Pattinson isn’t her paramour, Stewart did say that there is one “awesome” guy in her life. “He’s older than me — he’s 20 now — but when you’re 13 and he’s turning 16, it was always sort of an out-of-reach thing,” she explained about her relationship with actor Michael Angarano. “Then you get a little older, and you realize, ‘Oh, What the f— am I thinking? I can have you, like, lickity.’
And by March of 2009 the rest of the Twilight cast were putting their two cents in, too, as they spoke with E!’s Mark Malkin.
Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent, tells me the cast and crew have pretty much ignored the gossip. “I can’t even think of those two together at all,” he told me during his recent stop in Los Angeles for the launch of Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight: Director’s Notebook. “Kristen has a boyfriend! It’s onscreen and that’s it.”
Ashley Greene added:
“Their chemistry is fantastic, but no, they are not in a romantic relationship,” Greene said at the Twilight at Midnight DVD launch event at Hollywood’s Hot Topic store. “They are good actors [is] basically what it comes down to.”
The Verdict
Phew! Have you noticed that there are a ton of interviews with these two out there? We did and we dug through them. And we found…nothing. There’s no real evidence that Rob and Kristen are anything but what they claim to be: friends. Pattinson Anonymous believes based on the evidence that Robert and Kristen have not dated and are currently not a couple. This one is BUSTED.
Kristen and her boyfriend Michael have been photographed together in the past few months and he accompanied her to many of the Twilight premieres. And Robert said in his interview in the April GQ issue that he’s not even sure he wants a girlfriend right now.
So shippers, step back and put down your weapons. We are aware of the many magazine articles and tabloids that promote this relationship. There are so many we could not address them all. But they do not provide credible evidence for their stories or for their “unidentified sources”.
Kristen is still with her boyfriend, Michael, who recently went up to Vancouver for a visit.
As for Rob’s self-reported “crush” on Kristen? Well, we sort of believe him when he says he did have a crush on Kristen while filming, but his overall comments do reflect a great fondness and respect for Kristen as an actress. Yes, the two definitely have chemistry on screen…

Ah, time for yet another movie. Rob is spending his early summer in and around the Los Angeles area shooting his next film, Water for Elephants. We can't wait for that one. And Eclipse promotion is calling his name as well. Happy June!As always...
I think is evident how talented they both are. Rob and Kris have portrayed their characters perfectly, they’ve displayed the love Edward and Bella shared in the best way any actor/actress could and that’s why people think their screen chemistry is so real. I think both of them are great people, it was inevitable that they would ended up been goo friends. In my opinion they are very alike, both are a bit reserved to them selves a little bit shy to be in the film-making industry but it doesn’t stop them to be great in their job.
I just have one question of my own to ask? How long has Kristen been dating this “older man”; what’s with her parents to allow her to begin dating seriously at such a young age of 13?
And to take it a little further, who is this Michael, who is passing himself off as some actor? In what, may I ask? I do not recognize his face…
Now Rob’s face has become as famous as the carvings of the presidents on Mt Rushmore in the United States… And he is definitely a working actor, not taking vacations to visit a girlfriend on her movie set…Shows me this Michael does not trust the fact that the so-called rumor can become true… Too bad boyfriend, get some acting jobs and make something of your career as Rob has and will continue to do long after you are a soon to be has been…
And Kristen, my advise to you is that you are much too young to settle right now..I doubt seriously that this Micheal charcter will be there for the duration & shouldn’t be…You need to explore some, Kristen, before you just settle…And keeping on dating this Michael is just that, settling…of course he is hanging on to you, Kristen, you are the stepping stone for his career boost, you are a hot property and that is all you are to him…
Get a clue and start dating others, Kristen…Or you will be tied down, amrried & raising children long before it is your time…
Again I say, shame on Kristen’s parents for allowing this relationship to have gone on…
i am seriously not thinking kristen is having serious relationship with her boyfriend, god, she is still 19 this year and it’s possibility they were having a really long way before hitch serious, so for shipper r/k it’s still having their dream alive, it’s still 3 more movie and kristen+rob is good friends now, the same situation when she found mike, but seriously people, i do think they were smart actors who didn’t play around with the cast and work on set for 3 years constantly, i mean if last think that they want is fall in love, it’s could be wrecked the acting and their work if they were break up, i don’t think rob/kris would take their passionate chemistry to be in love for now, it’s too much risk, but the future can always be change..

Michael is a very good actor. He has been in a lot of movies. He was in Speak with Kristan and recently in The Forbidden Kingdom, Sky High, Lords of Dogtown…C Hardwick directed it. Hello where have you peeps been?

Actually, Michael Angarano is a very talented actor. I knew about him before I ever heard of Kristen Stewart, I grew up with some of his movies, and always enjoyed them. He seems like a good catch.

Thanks a lot for this post. I have had enough on Rob and Kris rumors which is getting stronger now. People should obsesses on Edward Bella not Rob Kris. Let them date whoever they want. If they’re together that’s fine. Just leave them be. People just need to grow up. Focus on their movie more.

Well, I still wonder if they are dating or not. I just found out from IMDb if u look for Kristen, at Travia it stated ‘ MET BOYFRIEND ROBERT PATTINSON ON THE SET OF THEIR MOVIE, TWILIGHT(2008)’. What do u think about it? Actually I don’t really care if they’re dating or not. I just like to read about them because they play Edward and Bella well. I love the twilight saga. But I do have a huge crush on Rob, he’s so gorgeous and hot! I’ll follow and watch his acting or perhaps music carreer time to time. He will be or is an amazing actor, both of them actually.

Someone (most likely a fan) has added that to Rob and Kristen’s profile. It is not any type of confirmation from anyone with either of their teams.
Wow Grandma, why so much hate for poor Michael. Why not respect Kristen’s choice? She seems smart, talented and mature for her age. It must be hard finding ‘real’ people to date in Hollyweird. If she’s happy with Michael, who are we to judge? Be happy for her. I’m glad we get to enjoy Kris and Rob’s chemistry for 3 more movies. Takes great acting to create that magic.
hmmm…what u thinkin’ now?? where is kristen’s BF? hr didn’t go to Italy w/her. plus, she and rob seem pretty close, it seems that he even waited for the end of her italy shooting to fly back to LA with her instead of leaving earlier as previously reported. i don’t know about your “evidence” but think about ALL the films over the years and how many co-stars hooked up? these 2 are not THAT good of acters to only fake that chemistry for on set…it would have to leak out but kristen strikes me as overly mature for her age and probably has alot of guilt regarding her first love who she admittedly liked since she was 13. He’s most likely her first. Gaaaah…sorry. I had issues this weekend, and I have issues this coming weekend. We’re trying!! Late Sunday, hopefully.
robert and kristen is great as a couple. when i see photos of kristen and michael, she hardly smile or stares like she does with robert and michael never smile maybe a pee bit and he looks like he’s depressed all the time. they just dont look good together at all. on the other hand, betwee robert and kristen, you can actually see life and sparks in their eyes and smiles. they look into each other eyes so tenderly and they are always in a happy mood. kristen needs robert, he handsome, witty, kind, gentle, concern, loving, devoted, tender. i can see how he holds her, softly. they have sooo much in common too. their movement and so much more. if they get together, they will never tire with each other.i have seen many couples together and no one can compare the was robert and kristen are with each other.
Personally I don’t think it’s anyone’s business who Rob or KS date. Yes, they’re in our favorite book/movie, but that doesn’t mean they are dating/should date. Making a big deal out of this is totally stupid because our opinions will not make Rob and KS’s decision. They’re not going to date eachother because the fans want them to. I mean seriously would you want someone telling you who to date, who not to date, when to get married, ect,ect? I too love the chemistry between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson; and yes, it does very much look as though they could very well be a great couple that would last. While even though they are young, a great love only comes around once in their live; it is possible these two have found so great a love; If things I have heard through media collections of favorite issues they each would look for in a mate; these two have been quoted to have said the exact same answers about the kinds of enjoyments they love in life, the date they consider is a perfect one in how it should go, how they feel about children and future issues were all extremely similar; and these things just don’t happen to every couple out there; unless one of these two is not telling the truth, this similarity this couple shares is indeed an ideal situation for them both to be in together on and off screen; but, whether or not they choose to do so, we as the fans of Robert and Kristen must back off and allow them to choose no matter how much we wish (unfortunately and I don’t understand why we all feel so obsessed) for them to be together. I know poor Robert has taken the brunt of pain from fans, especially to be grabbed by the neck like I have seen; that can cause such a seriously painful headache that I myself wouldn’t wish to suffer. I am deeply saddened for this to have occurred to Kristen and/or Robert, when I care so much about these two people I have never even met; and I feel these same strong feelings about the entire cast of Twilight; I do not wish any of them to be anquished or injured in any way by media hype.
I truly miss the softness of the Kristen Stewart we all grew to love in Twilight with her med dark with warm red highlights and the natural makeup that was done on her, even the look where she was all done up for her Nylon magazine photoshoot, and as a vampire would look. I miss that look on her so very much; when I saw that black harsh look on her at Comic Com convention, I felt as if she was really in that harsh play part as well - which is not the Kristen Stewart that we know, but it means with Kristen as well as Robert just how well they get into the parts they are cast to play. I, as a parent feel proud of them both.

We have all seen the interviews and behind the scenes videos with Kristen playing with Rob’s sideburns, lovingly glancing at him, him beaming at her in photo shoots etc. These two made their own rumors first by Kristen being so obviously a girl in love in their very first on set interview and then by Rob telling Seacrest he could love her, telling BBC radio interview that she would say yes if he asked her seriously to marry him WITH HER THERE, and that he dreams of her. It is true that he had a crush on set and got into the role. It is true that he had it bad for her and asked her to marry him 4 times as he confessed. THE REST OF THAT interview…shows them exchange a meaningful look of “let’s fool this people”. Also Michael was around at that moment.
Michael got her the audition as he knew Hardwicke. Emile Hirsch referred Kristen too. She owed Michael but they were buddies NOT in love. She fell for the character of Edward and Rob. Rob is an awkward, shy, silly young man who has grown up a lot this past year. He started doubting himself after the movie was over.
They fell in love all over again at Comic Con 2008, she was so shy and wounded looking at first as she had not heard from him…there is a shot of him having Eye exchange with her during the panel session. He found that he still had it for her and then they had the Vanity Fair shot (much more relaxed) which had sexy scenes. Then they were called back for more kissing scenes. Several deleted scenes were pretty erotic (forest, Bio lab, dream scene in her room) and made it pretty hard for a young celibate Catholic boy to not fall in lust/love. Rob and Kristen had a real life love story happen to them on a movie about a love story. These two give each other what the other is lacking. Kristen is weak but acts tough…he is tough but acts weak. He is sweet and she is not. Somehow with an ocean between them, brown contacts and parkas on…they found each other. There are many more that show them goofing on set and touching each other. Kristen suffers from crowd anxiety..because she was not handling the fans, the hate from the Edward lovers towards her, fans attacking Rob and groping him, she smoked the bong SUPPOSEDLY filled with pot in public (see You Tube) I think that might have had his family get turned off on her and she may not be Catholic and not celibate. Her dad was a stage manager on Seacrest’s show back when she was 13 and looks like a hippie. Her brother does too.
She comes off SO MUCH differently than how she looked and acted on Twilight set. She seems to be a punk and tough AND I don’t just mean for Joan Jet role. She was representing New Moon at Comic Con 2009 and she came off like an extra NOT a star. Rob can pull off the shy awkward thing…he is in reality. SHE can’t…she looks like an oddball when she twitches, spaces out and interrupts Rob and Taylor.
That is not the girl he fell for. Maybe, he is just taking it slow as he said just a few months ago that he has never been in love and always “falls for the wrong girl or ones he can not have”. I hope that she gets her stuff together as they could be the next Burton/Taylor. She needs to be more charming, gracious, and thank the fans. Lose the sneaks and the punk rocker look too.
