Who is TomStu?  Is he really best friends with Robert Pattinson? 

Ah, TomStu.  We’ve heard him described as “that actor guy that hangs with Rob” or just his BFF.  Let’s delve into the world of Rob’s friends, shall we?  It’s a land where the talent abounds, friendships run deep, and the jawlines are crafted by angels.

The Facts about Tom

Thomas Sturridge was born in England in January, 1986 to a showbusiness family.  His father, Charles Sturridge, is a director and his mother, Phoebe Nicholls, an actress.  He also has two younger siblings, Matilda and Arthur.  His grandparents were also actors.  It’s probably not a surprise that he ended up going into the family business and appeared in his first role in his father’s production of Gulliver’s Travels in 1996.  Tom went to Winchester College, but his siblings went to Harrodian.  It is through this school connection that Tom met Rob, according to the Daily Mirror:

Tom boarded at Winchester College, an intensely academic public school with fees of £9,290 a term. His siblings went to the private Harrodian School in London, where they got to know Robert Pattinson, who ended up becoming best friends with Tom.

In an interview with SundayMercury.net, Rob talked about his longtime friends.

“I’m happy with the life I have now. I’ve got the same two friends I’ve had since I was 12, and I can’t see that changing.”

The two actors were roommates in London for a time according to Interview Magazine.

Twenty-two-year-old Robert Pattinson fondly recalls his time living in a “cool little ex-crack den” in London with best friend Tom Sturridge. He’s joking (we think) about their bad behavior as struggling young actors. “We spent the better part of a year just getting drunk every night,” Pattinson admits. “I don’t know if that counts as ‘struggling.’?”

Tom’s career began to take off with roles in movies like Being Julia and Like Minds.  Tom was cast in the lead of the $100-million film, Jumper, but was replaced after two months when the studio decided they wanted a more recognizable star at the helm.  He also filmed his first U.S. feature, Waiting for Forever, in Utah in 2008.  He spent at least a portion of 2008 in Los Angeles, where he was seen at several functions with Rob. 

Tom is currently doing publicity for the film The Boat That Rocked, which is being released in the UK now and will be coming to the US in the summer.  As you can imagine, he’s been asked a few questions about Rob during the publicity, but remains mum about their friendship, as in this interview for Bliss.

How is your mate Rob Pattinson dealing with all the attention?
“I think you’d need to ask him.”

It must be nice to have a mate who’s an actor like you…
“I think it’s better to have friends who aren’t in the industry. If you go out with actor friends all the time, the conversation gets dull!”

We keep seeing pics of you and Rob in LA - Are you living there now?
“No, I’d miss the English weather!”

There you go, just a few facts about Tom Sturridge:  one-half of the bromance, actor, fellow hobo, and one of Rob’s best friends.
