New Moon Poster: Real or Manip?
When Best Week Ever posted this New Moon poster today under the headline “New Twilight Sequel Poster Features Robert Pattinson Shirtless, Some Text” we decided to roll the clock back just a little bit and take a look at this one. Is it real or a manip?
The Evidence
When this poster first started hitting the fan sites at the beginning of March it caused quite a stir. If featured Edward in Volterra, shirtless. The poster was soon picked up by a gaggle of gossip and news sites who seemed to label it as the “new” New Moon poster. Not so fast, folks.
The poster definitely featured Rob as Edward, but it was from this Bella and Edward pose from a Twilight promotional shoot. The shot was featured in the 2009 Twilight Calendar:
But what about the rest of the shot? It looked tailor-made for New Moon and featured a moody stone background. We were soon directed to some promotional shots for other movies to find the original: a promo shot for the film Jumper, featuring Hayden Christensen.
Add in a suitably-hunky bare chest, the official New Moon logo, and tada, you have an amazing poster that fooled the media.
The Verdict
Journalists could have been clued in that this wasn’t an official poster by taking a quick glance in the upper-right hand corner where there is a subtle logo of…a turkey? A chicken? Well, avian experts we are not. But this photo? Definitely a manipulation. This one is BUSTED.
This amazing poster is actually the work of a LiveJournal user by the name of smirks_works. In fact, the New Moon poster was originally posted on her site and other fansites clearly marked as a manipulation; it was not a secret. A month later, however, it continues to surface in the media as the official poster.
The talented smirks_works also posted a poster of Bella at the same time. It is also beautifully done and can be viewed at her site.
As for the real New Moon teaser poster? Well, a photo of that poster surfaced this week as well. Collider.com spotted this poster as things were being unloaded for ShoWest 2009. Simple and direct, it has no photographs on it at all. A far cry from the fancy graphics above.
I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what the final official poster looks like. We hear patience is a virtue…
Ah, time for yet another movie. Rob is spending his early summer in and around the Los Angeles area shooting his next film, Water for Elephants. We can't wait for that one. And Eclipse promotion is calling his name as well. Happy June!As always...

I wish it was real. I love the fake poster. I was upset though, unlike the twilight posters, the manip would have looked odd on my walls. The colors don’t look good with the others.

I love the fake. I just thought they waxed his chest. I did notice the chiken/turkey in the corner but I just thought it could be brick/stucco cracking/aging.
Last years posters were horrible, the greyness, harsh face. It didn’t look real and this New Moon poster looks great. It is currently my laptop background. I love the coat/collar too. Last year he had the grey peacoat this year this black coat. It’s amazing! Thanks for the fake.

It was an awesome fake! I wish it was real and I hope they will hurry up and make theofficial trailer!

The first time I saw, I knew it was fake but I thought it was real Rob posing. Then I got to know it wasn’t him, because it wasn’t like his real body. Photoshop maybe? But now I know it was someone’s chest (hot one, for sure!) and a mix of Hayden and Rob. It was a good job, this person has talent ahah! ^^ Thanks for clarifying it.
